Printmaking
Peace Pole Project:
Printmaking Edition
These prints were inspired by The Peace Pole Project (peacepoleproject.org). Peace Poles are vertical art pieces that have been “planted” in the earth by people and organizations around the world. Wherever I go - in my communities or abroad - I keep my eyes peeled for Peace Poles. Seeing them gives me a sense of joy…and a feeling of connection with the individuals who chose to plant it. May Peace Prevail on Earth.
A Family
Legacy
This week, I was lucky enough to print on linocut plates created by my grandmother’s cousin, Herman Bacharach (1899-1976). Herman was an artist who used many mediums, but I have always particularly loved his prints. I never had a chance to meet him, as he passed away before I was born. Seeing his lino plates, and working with them, has been so special that I have trouble finding the words to express it. Lots of love to all my family, and to Herman for giving us such beautiful art.
The prints below were cut from linoleum by Herman Bacharach, and hand-printed by me.
Playing with
Color
& Materials
I began taking classes in printmaking in February 2023, which gave me the opportunity to work with new materials and reintroduce myself to old favorites. The prints below were primarily created via monotype and linotype. Stencils and masks were hand cut in different weights of paper and cardboard, which allowed me to revisit paper cutting. I experimented with color by playing with oil and water based inks, and by experimenting with various papers. Many thanks to my teachers and classmates at the Palo Alto Art Center for their wisdom and inspiration!
