Fiber Arts

I love working with fabric: batik (and other forms of fabric dying), sewing, embroidery, weaving, and - about once a year, at the beginning of October - costume creation. I embrace the opportunity to explore upcycled and ethically sourced materials; to create with and for others; and to produce pieces that foster sustainable practice. I seek out materials that are second hand, produced in humane and empowering conditions, and can be disposed of in a way that will not harm humans or the environment. Here are some of my favorite resources:

  • Fair trade linen remnants (color enhanced with non-toxic dye)
  • Yarn pieces from past knitting projects
  • Miscut jacket lining, purchased from Fabmo.org
  • Fabric “gift bags” from Amazon.com
  • Jeans and cotton pants worn to death by various members of my family

I share more about my sustainability goals here: Happy World Art Day & Earth Month! | LinkedIn
